Padel fills the mornings - but Samui's downtime is half the fun. Golden temples, jungle waterfalls, buzzing night markets, sunset beach clubs and proper adventures are all minutes apart. Here's how to spend your off-court hours.
A 12-metre golden Buddha on a tiny islet in the north-east, visible from out at sea, with shrines and a small market at the base. Free to enter. Family-friendly.
Minutes from Big Buddha - a vivid temple on a lake with a striking 18-armed Guanyin statue and a giant laughing Buddha. Free entry and parking. Family-friendly.
A quiet hillside garden of statues set among jungle and streams in the island's interior. Reached by a steep mountain road - usually a 4x4 or tour.
Two falls in the lush interior - Na Muang 1 is roadside and swimmable; Na Muang 2 is taller, via a jungle walk. Often combined with safari/ATV tours. Family-friendly with care near water.
The famous "Grandfather & Grandmother" rock formations on the south coast near Lamai, known for their cheeky shapes and local folklore. A quick, free roadside stop.
Many operators bundle waterfalls, hill viewpoints, Hin Ta & Hin Yai and temples into a half- or full-day island circuit - an easy way to see the highlights without driving.
Interior adventure parks near the Na Muang falls run multi-platform ziplines and ATV/quad tours through jungle and rivers. Great for teens and adults; some ATV tours allow younger kids tandem.
Watch live stadium fights (there's a big one in Chaweng) or take a training class at a local gym - a real Thai cultural and fitness hit between padel sessions.
Day snorkelling trips run to Koh Tan / Koh Madsum off the south coast and to Ang Thong. For serious diving, day-trip or transfer to Koh Tao - the regional dive hub. See nearby islands.
Swing-seat bar and beanbags on the sand beside Fisherman's Village, with cocktails, sunsets and nightly fire shows. Relaxed by day, livelier after dark.
Upscale luxury beach club on the west side - sunset views, a pool, dining and party brunches. More adult, more glamorous.
The island's main nightlife strip - beach parties, bars and clubs along Chaweng Beach (Ark Bar and more). The go-to for a big night out.
Fisherman's Village Walking Street (traditionally Friday) is the star - street food, live music and stalls in Bophut. Maenam (Thursday) and Lamai also have lively markets. Days can shift, so check locally.
A deep spa and yoga scene - perfect for muscle recovery between matches, from resort spas to dedicated studios and retreats.
Learn to cook the food you've been eating - SITCA in south Chaweng is the best-known school, and many resorts run their own classes.
The island's only championship 18-hole course, set in hills and coconut plantations above Maenam with Gulf views. A great non-padel sporting day.
Several no-riding, observation-and-feeding sanctuaries (Samui Elephant Sanctuary, Haven, Heaven). Choose the no-riding model and read recent reviews - "ethical" is a claim worth checking.
Plenty here works for all ages. The easiest wins:
Adult-leaning: Chaweng nightlife, Nikki Beach and Muay Thai stadium nights.
Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and the Ang Thong Marine Park are all an easy ferry away - perfect for a day trip or an onward adventure.
